You may or may not have known that the egg industry is cruel, inhumane, and downright horrible. Most of the time at least, I saw the undercover videos in the warehouses where the chickens are kept, I saw the photos of the poor hens cramped in the tiny cages. I saw it all....
It's horrific I thought we need to get eggs from hens that live a long quality life, free from tight cramped cages, free to be a chicken, like nature intended I'm going to break down the egg industry into two groups: The Industrial and The Natural here is a timeline of the chickens life in that industry INDUSTRIAL Hatching - Beak Trimmed ( Still a common practice in natural industry, we don't though) - Raised without their mother and with 1,000s of other pullets - Thrown in cages with 5-10 other birds in about 1 sq ft of space - Fed a gross diet of mostly animal by-products ( which has low to no nutritional value for chickens, except the high protein) - After two years of suffering, (if still alive) will be sent to the slaughterhouse NATURAL Hatching under the warmth of their mother - Beak Trimming ( Done by most, we don't) - Raised with their mother by their side - Put outside to peck and scratch around with a few other chickens - Fed a great diet with fortified feed, all the vitamin and minerals needed - (This only happens sometimes in the Natural Industry , we don't) After 2 years get slaughtered Now the thing I still don't like about the Natural industry is that most kill their chickens after 2 years, ( their high egg laying years) after the chickens have done so much for you, even though some people feel like its a waste of money, NO, they are not a waste of money, you can't just discard a living being after your done with them, I know people want to get eggs every year for a while but they did so much for you, provide meals for you and your family, I feel that however kills their chickens after their egg laying days are over and very mean, and ungrateful.

I was a first time chicken buyer, looking for very friendly egg layers, when you heard that you might of thought Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Australorp and so on, but I thought Wyandotte. I was told Wyandottes were docile, calm, and friendly, all I wanted in a chicken. but boy, I got the most skittish things in the world and I got 4 of them. Now don't get me wrong Wyandottes are great! They are great egg layers, and more skittish then most, which would be great for some but not for me personally. Now they are still skittish but they got used to me, i love those stinkers but they can be little rascals
7/1/2017 0 Comments Essential Oils with chickensEssential oils have been used for thousands of years for so many medicinal uses. Owners who are cautious of the chemicals and want a natural solution to keeo their flock healthy lean towards essential oils for optimal health for their chickens. The pure volatile oil is usually steam distilled from a part of a plant to make the oil. I am a personal user of essential oils and these are some of my favorite uses and what oils can be used. Plus! A surprise recipe at the end.
For a powerful antiboitic and immune booster: Use Oregano oil. Put 1 drop per three gallons of water or put it in their food, but remember Oregano oil is very powerful, use in very small amounts. For Calming: Use Lavender oil. Put Lavender oil in a spray bottle and spray around the coop For Broody Hens: Use Lavender Oil. Put one drop of Lavender oil onto the nest boxes bedding to calm down a overprotective egg layer To purify the coop: Use Tea Tree Oil. Put Tea Tree oil into a spray bottle and spray around the coop to get rid of the stink. Recipe: Natural Disinfectant Need: Spray Bottle 1 cup of White Vinegar 5 drops of lemon oil 10 drops of tea tree oil 5 drops clove oil 5 drops orange oil Optional: 10 Drops of Lavender for scent Mix all the ingredients and fill up the rest of the spray bottle with water Signed, Riley |
